Straight Goods on SEO
There's a gigantic difference between web page design and optimized
web site design! It'd be the equivalent to choosing between an apprentice
carpenter to design your house, or having an architect draw up the
plans. Is one more expensive then the other? Naturally - but what's
your business success worth? SEO

Some
things we don't do (and
you shouldn't either)
- Use
Templates. Ever.
Some discount web designers actually purchase a
thirty dollar template, fill in the blanks, and pass it off as
their own work. Discount web hosting companies use them also.
You've seen their sales pitch. Get a web site TODAY! Be up in
5 minutes!
Now here's the big problem.
There's dozens or even hundreds of sites that
look just like yours, and these templates employ programming code
not optimized for the search engines. Every page in one of these
templates uses identical search engine elements. As a result your
web site appears to be only one page to the search engines; you
get little or no indexing, and therefore no visitors.
Remember:
You get what you pay for - there's no shortcuts to success.
- Use
CSS. Ever.
Cascading Style Sheets are used extensively
by web developers. They lock down a good portion of the web page,
so that only the text can be changed. Code problems are the same
as with templates. In addition CSS almost always leave an unbalanced
page. I'm sure you've noticed on many web sites one column is
3-5 times longer than the text it's meant to support. Not very
attractive, and visitors notice. Every page on your web site is
another door to your business for the Search Engines to offer
visitors. It doesn't make sense not to have every page on your
site as good as it can be.
- Use
Frames. Ever
Frames
segment a web page into 2 - sometimes 3 or more parts. Difficult
for the search engines to read and results in limited indexing
- or none at all.
- Disable
the right click on your web site.
Hard to believe in this day and age that some
web site designers and owners are still doing this. It's absolutely
useless and the consequences are real real simple. If you disable
the right click function on a visitors mouse, you've blocked the
Search Engines ability to navigate through your web site, and
little or no indexing will happen. Ever. Besides it accomplishes
nothing. To anyone that knows their stuff, what you've done is
an inconvenience; not a solution.
- Design
an entire Web Site in Flash.
The Search Engines will never index your site,
beyond the most basic listing. There's nothing in a flash file
for the search engines to read. Here's a simple analogy. Lets
say you have a restaurant a mile off a major highway. The busy
road funnels thousands of visitors past your turn off as it goes
around a particular corner. You decide to put a billboard up to
promote your business. You pay a guy 20,000 dollars, and all the
sign says is "Great Food" Nothing else. No address,
phone number, or directions to your restaurant We doubt you'd
feel you got your money's worth out of this marketing experience.
