These
are some of the more common questions we get asked.
How
much does a web site cost?
A very common question - one of the first new clients ask - and
very hard to answer without knowing all the factors involved with
what you want done. Some of the factors that affect cost are; whether
you need graphics work, SEO services, or how many pages you have
planned for the site. Will you need E-Commerce? (are you selling
directly off the web site) do you want Flash Elements, databases,
a newsletter, surveys, or other specialty modules? After a meeting
it'd be easier to figure out - once all the elements of the work
is decided.
We
work within your budget and will suggest how to judiciously spend
those funds. We highly recommend you allocate at least 1500.00 for
Search Engine Optimization. It will pay off in the long run.
Why
would I want to use a web designer who's not local?
You should focus on abilities, rather than who's local - especially
if you live in a small town or in the country. Distance is no issue
in today's Internet World. By using e-mail, the Internet, and the
telephone we are able to have productive design meetings over any
distance. A meeting time is booked, just as if it were in person.
Why
can't I find my web site in the search engines?
Poorly designed web sites or amateur designers pay little attention
to the design dynamics necessary
to get good search engine rankings. It it's a new web site, and
designed properly, your website home page may get indexed within
a few weeks, but it will take months and years before you see any
sort of deep indexing by the search engines. The longer you've been
on the web the more dramatic will be the impact of a new design
or refreshed web site on your search engine results. When we did
a new design (2002) for Rafter Six Ranch Resort (first posted: 1996)
within a week the key search engines were delivering significantly
improved search results.
What's
the "Voice" of a web site.
The
voice of any written information belongs to the author. Think of
your two favorite writers. Perhaps Steven King and Dan Brown. Both
these men tell excellent stories and have their own definitive style.
Easy to recognize, right? Now; what if you read a book that both
men had written. Do you think you could recognize where one stopped
and the other started? Of course you could. That's what you find
on the majority of the web sites out there. And the larger the company
web site the more "voices" you are likely to spot.
Who's our Voice?
Web
Site Content - What Do I Put On My Site?
We can certainly help you with that - and it would depend on the
goals of your web site. If you run a business website you'd want
to include all the information about your products or services that
customers would need to make an informed buying decision.
What
is site management?
Site Management is paid monthly to keep your site updated with new
content that either we put together or you provide. It can also
include managing the search engine placement of the web site - to
make sure they don't slip in the standings. Most top web sites have
new content added regularly. Fresh content is what keeps visitors
coming back.
Do
you offer any type of discounts?
Yes, we offer discounts to schools and non profit organizations.
Having said that we do offer an incentive for new clients. A new
design gets the first year of web hosting and e-mail supplied at
no charge.
What
is
Web Hosting?
Web hosting is a monthly or yearly fee you pay to have your site
accessible on the Internet. We can provide web hosting for our clients.
Can
I choose you to design my site and use my own web hosting?
Of course.
Here's
some key Internet terms that we find people get confused with.
Domain
Name
A domain name is a specific web site address that you choose and
register with a legitimate Registrar. TheWiredWeb.net is our domain
name.
IP
Address
This is a set of numbers that identifies a web site or a computer
connected to the Internet or an internal network. Formatted like
this: 207.44.195.124
URL
Stands for "universal resource locator". This is the address
typed in to view your web page on the Internet. For example, you
would type in: http://www.thewiredweb.net to access our home page.
URL's were developed so that you wouldn't have to remember the ip
address of a web site. Wouldn't you agree it's a lot easier to remember
thewiredweb.net than the IP Address: 207.44.195.124 Although inputting
this number into your address bar will get you to thewiredweb.net
Web
Host
This is the computer on which your web site is stored and delivers
your web site to the world wide web.
